Neighborhood Watch & Security Company
June 28
Please be advised a neighbor in Bahama Shores again rec'd unsolicited yard work while she was out. This time the suspect dropped his glasses in her driveway. If any of you experience this or have security companies soliciting your house, please let me know so I can advise others where they are working. Thanks, Jackie
June 24 - Email from a neighbor:
“We have a Brinks Security system and we got a call tonight from them. They called to warn us about some folks who are posing to represent the company and are trying to gain access to your home by claiming that they are there to update the equipment. Be very wary of this scam...”

I have had mixed reviews about the "intern" /college student selling security systems. Some rec'd material, others did not. One neighbor was given an 800 number that checked out and a contractor #. Overall, out of about 10 responses to my email, 80% say this guy is questionable. One neighbor said he was with Securetech, another said he was with Honeywell. At this point I don't know, he hasn't been here. I would again just advise everyone to be cautious Jackie Taylor
Email from a neighbor:
I had a guy come by yesterday claiming to be with some well known company, I can't remember which. He claimed to be some kind of intern and said I could put one of their signs out on my yard. I said no but would be interested in looking over any materials they had so I could compare their prices to our current security system. He said he didn't have any. Bottom line from my standpoint is just 'cause someone says their with a security company, don't volunteer any info to them. It's none of their business and who knows who they're actually working for.

I have heard from two neighbors today about security companies soliciting door to door and/or someone claiming to be with crime watch. If any of you are currently talking to neighbors and soliciting new members for crime watch let me know.
There is no one that I know of with crime watch/neighborhood watch going door to door. You could ask them questions like who the coordinator (Jackie Taylor) is or who the president of the Civic Assn (Barbara Hawkins) is just in case but mostly you should call in a suspicious person report to 893-7780. Do not tell them anything about your alarm systems or whether or not you have one!! Do not let them in your home. The guy claiming to be with neighborhood watch was in his mid to late 20’s about 6’2”, Black hair, med complexion, well groomed and nice smile. Wearing Jeans and a T shirt.
The same with anyone claiming to be with a security company. Get credentials. Ask them for a phone number for the company, contractor's license if you think you could really determine if it was real. Do not let them in. Do not tell them anything about your alarm systems or whether or not you have one!! If you are interested in an alarm system change, call the company yourself and give them this person's name so they get the sales credit. Be careful. I will provide more info as I receive it.
Thanks, Jackie
