4th Street S Beautification
Planting Day - Saturday June 16th 2007
Just wanted to say thanks to the board members that showed up to help. They were Jody Bennet and her husband, Frank and Marlyn, Gerry, and Rodger. Also ex-board member Judy Hunt was having fun hauling the mulch. There were also about twenty other people who showed up. There help was appreciated. I think I have people committed to watering the plants - tomorrow I'll be going over with them what needs to be done.
It was really great having these folks helping out !
It was hot and humid, but everyone stuck with it and we got our plants in. It's just been an extremely gratifying day. Thanks everybody

Beautification Grant Submitted
The Greater Pinellas Point Civic Association (GPPCA) has submitted a beautification grant to the city, in hopes of funding, to enhance 4th Street South between Colony Point Road and Colony Drive. Neighbors got together and developed a landscape plan to put in islands in the right-of-way area anchored by crape myrtles. Crape myrtles are found along 4th Street from Bahama Shores southward.
To assist with the design, GPPCA contracted with Cathy Wallace of Creative Gardens (727-656-2624) to further develop the plan. In keeping with Florida friendly plants, using drought tolerant plants, Cathy developed three concepts, two of which were selected by GPPCA members.
Both islands are anchored with two crape myrtles (purple flowers), but they differ in under story plants. One uses plumbagos (blue flowers) in the center of the island, with dune sunflowers (yellow flowers) creating a border for the island. The other plan used firebush (red flowers) in the center, with Walter’s dwarf vibrunum (white flowers). Assuming the grant project is approved and gets funded by the city, we will be having a planting day next spring to bring beauty to this corner of the neighborhood.
